September 21st 2008
The 2008 season has come to an end and congratulations go to Mike Williams and all the players who have played for the A Team this season on Winning Division 1 by 1 point. Bad weather made them sweat with the Gate A's last game of the season at Ellesmere canceled due to bad weather and played a week later. Ellesmere winning 9 to 5 giving the A Team the slender 1 point to clinch the division.

Congratulations to Mike Williams who capped an excellent season by winning the Division 1 Merit at Llay for the second year running.

The final two competitions of the season were played on the 20th of September. The ladies competition won by Edna Hughes who Beat Ashleigh Craven in the final. This was followed by the seasons last competition the floodlight. with 16 members turning up and plenty of food in the pavillion just as well with the late finish. Mike Williams beat Malcolm Hughes in the final to claim his fourth competition win of the season. More polishing for Diane. I think next season if she gets wind of competition days she'll find him some work to do in the garden or around the house.

The 21st of September the club hosted the Welsh Club Finals. This was won by Esclusham by a single chalk, beating St Asaph 148 to 147. Some excellent bowls played by all four teams in warm sunshine on our usual sticky green. Typical the best weather of the season just as it ends.

The final of the WG Roberts cup will be played on the 26th September between Cunliffe A and Llay A.

The Presentation night is Saturday 1st November (Mike Fetch a Big Box) we hope as many members as possible will be able to attend the evening. Don't forget to bring your brains with you as Mrs Cherrett will be conducting the quiz again. So brush up on your knitting :-)

A big thank you from All Captains to all players for turning out this season and playing some games at short notice.

A Big Thanks to Viv Morris for the pairs and the Veterans. The Pairs finishing fourth in a tough Division 1 and the Vets finishing sixth in division 1

As B Team captain it has been a pleasure to see the youngsters coming on. Kate Craven, Kayleigh Fisher and Bethany Matthias all making their league debuts for the B Team and I look forward to see their game developing in the future.

November 13th is the date of the first Bingo. This is Bev's Birthday and she is 21 (again). She has caused quite a stir with her new woods this season Clear purple with glitter inside. They look like big marbles. Sion was heard to say during a Pairs game this season he was fed up as he didn't get to practice as everyone wanted a look at them.
